Learn the fundamentals of mutual fund investing using BetterInvesting’s online tools to select, compare and monitor stock and bond mutual funds and ETFs with BetterInvesting’s Mutual Fund Handbook. This edition, revised in 2012, is available as an e-book or PDF.
The manual is $15 for members ($20 for nonmembers) via the BetterInvesting online store. To get your copy, click here. Or download a free sample chapter of the Mutual Fund Handbook and also try out BetterInvesting’s free mutual fund resources.
The handbook, which was last revised in 2003, reflects the many changes BetterInvesting made to the online suite of mutual fund tools in recent years. For example, where the past edition extensively discussed how to source information, with significant explanations of how to read and interpret data from Morningstar reports, the online tool has greatly simplified this process by integrating data (currently from Lipper) into the Check List, Trend Report and Comparison Guide.
Other changes were driven by the new look and feel of the online tools. Information in one section of old forms might be somewhere else in the updated tools. The former Trend Report has also been integrated into the Check List so that users can inspect current and historical information at the same time. We’ve also updated general industry information.
We were fortunate to have the services of Danielle Schultz, CFP, in suggesting changes from the previous edition and writing new content on exchange-traded funds and international investing. Danielle brought not only her professional expertise and great writing skills but also her perspective as a Lifetime Member of BetterInvesting. We were also lucky to have a great base to build on with the previous work by Amy Buttell.
BetterInvesting is planning other revisions to the book series. We invite you to read the Mutual Fund Handbook and let us know what you think of the format.
