The media has tuned in recently to 3D Systems (ticker: DDD), owing to the company’s creation of what’s billed as the world’s first 3-D printed acoustic guitar. The black, fused plastic model can be played and is said to have a good tonal range.
The guitar was built for Scott Summit of San Francisco, from a computer design he created.
“The one-off model used about $3,000 worth of plastic and had a headstock 3-D printed with sterling silver; the plate on the neck was 3-D printed out of stainless steel. ‘It’s sort of this salad bar of 3-D printing,’ he (Summit) said,” according to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle.
BetterInvesting members have already taken notice of 3D Systems, headquartered in Rock Hill, S.C.
In November’s BetterInvesting Magazine, 3D Systems was featured on the “Most Active List: Bubbling Under,” based on 13 purchases of its stock as reported by online club accounting service myICLUB.com. In December’s magazine, the tech innovator makes the list again with another 13 buy transactions of the stock.
December’s BetterInvesting goes live digitally on Oct. 30 and will begin to show up in mailboxes around Nov. 13.
